There are several terms used to describe parts of the SAP HANA release strategy.Also HANA 1.0 and HANA 2.0 have big differences according to SAP HANA release strategy documentations and snotes which i am going to try to explain in this article.
Below picture will show you the main situation about current HANA 1.0 SPS12 and the new version of HANA 2.0
- End of maintenance extended to “May 2021″ for the version of HANA 1.0 SPS12
- There will be “1 SPS per year” for HANA 2.0
- Maintenance duration for new SPS (Software Package Stack) will be “2 years” from starting with SPS02 for HANA 2.0
- Last SPS will have “5 years long maintenance period” for HANA 2.0
Additional Information ;
There will not be any new SPS release for HANA 1.0 , so last version of the SPS for HANA 1.0 is SPS12

SPS00 Nov 2016
SPS01 Q2 2017
SPS02 Q3 2017
SPS03 Q2 2018
SPS04 Q2 2019

For the HANA 2.0 implementation on “EHP8″ for SAP ERP 6.0 (SAP Note : 2447796)
Following picture can be using yo transition path to “SAP HANA 2.0″ ;
- Customers on SAP HANA 1.0 with SPS10 can upgrade directly to SAP HANA 2.0
- Recommendation is first upgrade to SPS12 and continue with SAP HANA 2.0 upgrade
- If you are using SAP HANA 1.0 with below SPS version from 10, then SPS12 upgrade is mandatory before start the SAP HANA 2.0 upgrade
